Folks across Southern Minnesota are no strangers to summer festivals. Community gatherings are part of many a town. But this year, Southern Minnesota’s Best Kept Secret resides in Berne, where the community comes together for music and a side of delicious wood-fired pizza every Wednesday of the summer months.
Hosted on the grounds of Zwingli United Church of Christ, the Berne Wood-Fired season always features a diverse range of musical acts, ranging from Dixieland jazz to funk to good old rock and roll (some of the roll and roll more oldies than others). It’s the pizza, though, that provides the consistent draw from week to week.
Featuring 7 different types of pizza, the all-volunteer cook staff make upwards of 600 pizzas each Wednesday from the beginning of June to the end of August. Sides and drinks are available as well, although you can bring your own too. Since everything is volunteer, all proceeds go to local non-profits, including the church.
Hit up the series during the summer at 5054, 23148 County Rd 24, West Concord.
