Celebrate NYE in SoMinn

December 27, 2019

Making New Year’s Eve plans can be a headache — finding the right place to go, the right thing to wear, and making sure you have the ‘best time ever.’

To ease the process, we’ve rounded up some nearby events and simple ideas so you can say goodbye to 2019 and welcome 2020 in style. Whether you’re looking for a low key get-together or a get-your-glitter-on, high energy evening, you’ll find a fun way to celebrate. We’ve even included a cheat-sheet of where to go for the best supplies for hosting your own shindig.

New Year’s with Near-vana & Friends

As we enter a new decade, why not throw back to an old one. Pub 500 is celebrating the new year with a 90’s throwback party, including music from cover band Near-vana and special guests. Dig up those scrunchies and tie dye and head to the pub for food, drinks, and musical dose of nostalgia. Free. 10PM-1 AM, Pub 500. More info.

New Year’s Eve Karaoke at Oleander Saloon

Oleander Saloon is partnering with B & B Karaoke so you can sing tunes ‘til past midnight. Brad and Betty are regular karaoke hosts at venues across Mankato so they’re sure to have festive options for singing in the New Year (and also welcome your faves). Free. 8PM-12:30 AM, Oleander Saloon, Mankato. More Info.

New Year’s Eve Dance

Blue Moon Ballroom has a lively soiree planned for New Year’s Eve whether you want to learn some new moves or bust out some old favorites. Bitter and Bleu New Year’s Eve Party

For those looking for an excuse to indulge, several Rochester establishments have come together to bring you the Bitter and Bleu New Year’s Eve Party, a progressive dinner and dance party. Start with welcome drinks at the Bleu Duck Kitchen and then shuttle to Bitter & Pour for a cocktail hour that includes an Oyster Bar. Then it’s back to Bleu Kitchen for a five-course, wine paired dinner. The evening ends at The Maven, where you can dance your way into the new year with bubbly, a photo booth, and DJ’d music. $250, includes all food and drink, transportation and party favors. 7 PM-1 AM, multiple locations. Resolution Run and Walk

Leave 2019 revived and energized for the new year (or get pumped for later evening NYE activities) with a 5k run/walk along the Zumbro River. Running Room locations across the U.S. are hosting Resolution Runs and Walks, and the Rochester outpost is joining in, with cozy jackets and post-event noshes for all participants. $45 adults, $15 kids. 5:30 PM. Rochester Running Room, Rochester. More info

Host Your Own!

As fun as a night out on the town can be, sometimes the best celebrations are those you plan yourself. There are many benefits to hosting your own party: no transportation to worry about, no cover, and you choose how fancy or laid back the evening should be. Here are our recommendations for where to pick up must-have materials for a festive gathering.

Food: For a quick but elegant spread of finger foods, visit Just Foods Co-Op in Northfield for fun cheeses, crackers, spreads, and dippable veggies. If you’re hosting a larger affair, Pizzeria 201 caters pizza and pasta–and can even bring their brick oven on site. For dessert, pick up some decorated cupcakes at Sugar Rose Bakeshop in New Prague.

Drink: Grab a Growler from Island City Brew, and for extra bubbles, get a recommendation from the experts at Tessa’s Office Wine Boutique.

Decor- Spiff up your space with decorations from The Nook & Cranny in Faribault, which is always stocked with seasonal tablescapes, wall art and garden decor.

Games- To keep guests entertained before the count down, refresh your stock of board and card games at Lucky Dice in downtown Owatonna.
